Get Involved - Here's How

Volunteering with the Travelling Gallery

What's Involved

We are currently looking for volunteers to talk about exhibitions in the Travelling Gallery, often to groups of school children of all ages but also to members of the public.
- This may involve a lot of driving, getting from Edinburgh to wherever the Travelling Gallery happens to be, so you must be a safe and confident driver.
- You don't need to drive the Travelling Gallery, but if you have a HGV licence all the better!
- It may also mean long days with occasional overnight stays, so you must be flexible.
- We're flexible too, so if you can only do certain days or maybe just a block of a couple of weeks that's fine.
- You will need to have a Disclosure Scotland check done, we will arrange this.

Opportunity

This is a great opportunity to learn about gallery organisation, teamwork, contemporary art, art education and to travel and see Scotland. It is ideal for someone interested in a career in the visual arts and/or gallery education. It's also good experience in teaching or community work.

Training Available

Most training will be 'on the job', but it may be possible to receive training in disability awareness and equal opportunities etc.

Essential skills required

- Excellent communication skills
- A clean driving licence and driving experience
- Education to a level where you can talk confidently about issues relating to the exhibition
- Knowledge and interest in contemporary art

Preferred skills required

- Experience of working with children
- Experience of working in a small team

Other information

The Travelling Gallery will cover the cost of any expenses incurred while on tour, i.e. meals, travel and accommodation. The next exhibition starts touring in August and ends in December.
